Our first Regenerate! event in Detroit, this project let us make music with a community of musicians who had never participated in a Regenerate event before, and I was amazed by the creative breadth and energy of this project’s participants.

During the show’s climactic choral number, a nine-foot tall rain machine build specifically for this event began spattering on the concrete floor outside the venue (a beautiful moment brought by Detroit-based sculptor and installation artist Conner Darling.)

The audience were encouraged to perambulate throughout the ensemble during the show, engage sonically with boxes of rice and seeds spread throughout the venue, and contemplate one of the hundred dahlias that had been donated for the show.

As the performance came to a close, the ensemble released pieces of gold leaf to flutter through the performance space, a lovely visual gesture that capped off a stellar night of musical catharsis.
