“Jericho” (2023)
A Regenerate! event at the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market
Friday, May 12th - Friday, May 19th, 2023
Rehearsals at The Riverside Arts Center, performance at The Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market, in Ann Arbor, MI.
A piece in seven movements about social change, performed at the Ann Arbor farmer’s market. The immersion begins as a plaintive trumpet solo, played in this performance by the skilled Amanda Ross.
Over the course of the piece, the ensemble grows, slowly at first, and then precipitously. By the final, seventh movement, the whole thirty-person ensemble is playing a chorale in surround sound, accompanied by people banging on pots and pans with wooden spoons (a remembrance of the 2019 protests in Puerto Rico.) The day we performed this piece it rained heavily, and the sounds of the musicians blended in splendidly with a backdrop of rainfall.
